Friday mumbling...

I can't help but notice the now never-ending stream of prominent Black males that have been and are still being villified in the media over charges of sexual misconduct or outright sexual deviancy. Come on guys, but I smell something fishy here most def. Black men have always had major exposure on the news but mostly in a negative or criminal spotlight since the beginning of time. It just strikes me as odd that in just the last two years we have seen an almost concerted effort by the mainstream media to latch on to every unfounded allegation, rumor, or accusation and make it headline news for months. Now the latest target, Kweisi Mfume, who coincidentially just happens to be running for the Senate. I myself find it suspect in the timing of these charges not only against him , but other men of prominence. Charges and allegations from decades ago in their pasts. Now if they did it thats a different story, but what I'm saying is why do folk wait so long, or until someone they used to have connections with are starting to do good for themselves before they come out the woodwork and start hurling accusations? Speak up when it happens, if it happens. It is so permanently devastating to a presumably innocent person's character to have to defend themselves against unproven and unsubstantiated accusations from the long forgotten past...In Mfume's case, I honestly must say I genuinely like the man. I know of his troubled past, the way he changed his life and was fast becoming one of the top men of prominence on the national scene. Now folk bear in mind that this is only my opinion concerning him or this issue so if you disagree, it's still cool by me. But it just seems like it's open season on Black men of prominence lately...

comment spam bassards

As some of you may be aware by now, I am currently undergoing wave after wave of “comment spam” for ***** and various online ******** joints in my comments area. At first I was spending a considerable amount of time deleting each and every post that appeared. Although eventually I will transition on to a different system for my comments, one that has the ability to block comment spam, I’ve decided to hold off on that for a little bit. Right now I am really pissed that we have certain low-life scumbags who apparently have nothing better to do with their time than to post comment spam advertising online ******** on my site. Rather than taking the time out of my day to delete their garbage on a daily basis, I’ve decided to have a bit of reverse fun with them myself until I decide to change my site again in order to prevent this from happening in the future. I’ve decided to go right ahead and let them post their garbage in my comments…I’m just going to use the “search & replace feature” in my GreyMatter to search for all the posts left by any online ******** joints and replace the text they left with text of my own choosing. For example, one rather persistent joint that keeps harassing my site on a daily basis is a site that signs on my blog as “best online *****” or “best online ********” along with a whole paragraph telling the reader how great their site is…Using the search and replace feature in GreyMatter, I went through my archives and replaced “best online *****” with “ABSOLUTELY WORST online *****” and I replaced their paragraph with one of my own, basically letting folks know they are a scam and the worst site ever for online *****. I also will warn folk that if they visit that site they will get a virus on their PC. So in actuality whenever they post something on my site about their garbage, what really will end up posting when I get done with it will be a message warning folk away from their site because of a risk of catching a computer virus if you visit them. Serves the bassards right!

p.s....I am not a tech-head so can someone shed light on this for me, k? Anyone have any ideas as to another comment thingy to use in order to cut down on comment spam? My blog is powered by GreyMatter, can I use a different program (such as HaloScan, etc.) for my comments while still using GreyMatter as my blog? If so, what would you recommend? I just don't feel like going through all the drama of changing up my whole blog again. Any suggestions?

mmmmm...

After a pretty much uneventful day at work today, it sure does feel good to get home where I can finally let my creative juices bubble over after being on a slow burn all day. I was literally marinating in art ideas at work, but of course I had to focus on doing my job while there. Tonight I planned on doing some art so I figured I'd come here with the intention of dropping a quickie blog about some ish that happened the other day when I was driving...but dayumm..wifey-poo Cheryl got something cooking downstairs, LAWD have mercy, it's smelling so frinkingblinking delicious, it got a brother's mind all jacked right now. Forget about the road rage I was going to blog about, k? Literally I can't even focus on whatever it was that I came here to blog about anyway. Funny how smells, particularly certain smells have that kind of power over me. I have always been a sucker for the smell of chicken as it's being fried...mmmm dayummmm! Or chocolate chip cookies still in the oven?? Who you talking to? Or cornbread just pulled from the oven...watch yourself! Sorry peeps, so much for blogging tonight, it's time to go 'vestigate those smells wafting my way and see if the missus needs my assistance perhaps?

Always Wash It!

My dear sister Tina always emails me various warnings concerning health or technology issues, some of which I am already aware of and some I have heard nothing about. I greatly appreciate her looking out for me and others too, so some of you may find the following snippet of news informative to say the least. If you've heard it before then regard it as just a friendly reminder and if you haven't heard it before then make a mental note, and pass it along ya heard?

Her husband, John, who is employed by a major food retailer, can testify to the conditions in the warehouses. If you really knew you would wash EVERYTHING, and not with just a little wipe or quickie rinse!!!

ALWAYS WASH IT FIRST!
A stock clerk was sent to clean up a storeroom in Maui, Hawaii. When he got back, he was complaining that the storeroom was really filthy and that he had noticed dried mouse or rat droppings in some areas. A couple of days later, he started to feel like he was coming down with a stomach flu, complained of sore joints and headaches, and began to vomit. He went to bed and never really got up again. Within two days he was severely ill and weak. His blood sugar count was down to 66, and his face and eyeballs were yellow. He was rushed to the emergency at Pali-Momi, where he was diagnosed to be suffering from massive organ failure. He died shortly before midnight.

No one would have made the connection between his job and his death, had it not been for a doctor who specifically asked if he had been in a warehouse or exposed to dried rat or mouse droppings at any time They said there is a virus (much like the Hanta virus) that lives in dried rat and mouse droppings. Once dried, these droppings are like dust and can easily be breathed in or ingested if a person does not wear protective gear or fails to wash face and hands thoroughly.

An autopsy was performed on the clerk to verify the doctor's suspicions...This is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS carefully and thoroughly rinse off the tops of canned sodas or foods, and to wipe off pasta packaging, cereal boxes, and so on. Almost everything you buy in a supermarket was stored in a warehouse at one time or another, and stores themselves often have rodents. Most of us remember to wash vegetables and fruits but never think of boxes and cans. The ugly truth is, even the most modern, upper class, super store have rats and mice. And their warehouse most assuredly does! Whenever you buy any canned soft drink, please make sure that you wash the top with running water and soap or, if that is not available, drink with a straw.

The investigation of soda cans by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta discovered that the tops of soda cans can be encrusted with dried rat's urine, which is so toxic it can be lethal. Canned drinks and other food products are stored in warehouses and containers that are usually infested with rodents, and then they get transported to retail outlets without being properly cleaned.

So boys and girls...please, please..just wash the daggone thing good, ok? I tell ya, this world is literally teeming with strange microbes and weird virus particles with odd sounding names that can kill you with a quickness! And some of these viruses have yet to be discovered!

Monday, April 11th

Rambling on about Home

After spending a blessed weekend with some of my family up in Pennsylvania, I've returned to Maryland with an even greater sense of appreciation and love for my family. Although we do not have the perfect family by far, we have a family that is not afraid to love and also not afraid to speak their minds, which is great, if you ask me. Human civilzation itself is based upon the premise that in spite of our various and diverse opinions on any subject we can't lose fact of the fact that we are still all human beings when it's all said and done. I do have to mention however that I personally have met a few individuals during my travels who made me suspect they were of another species entirely. :o)

Visiting with my sisters Donna and her family, Cindy and her family, my brother Frank and his family, my sister Tina and her family who traveled from Richmond, and also spending precious moments with my Mom sure went a long way to making this brother feel loved. I adore my family so much, although I hardly express that as much as I should. When I spend time with family who I haven't seen in awhile it brings back all the moments of yesteryear and all the experiences I shared with growing up with them, watching them grow, the laughs, the cries, the joys, and the tears...priceless!

My neice Shannon is ready to have her baby anyday (she's had 6 different due dates) and I pray that it is soon...I was afraid to hug her too hard for fear of inducing labor...(Love you girl!) I remember when she was just a little baby with the cutest face...now she's a big baby with the prettiest face...*sigh*
My road trip up that way was simply one of the best trips I've made up the way for a good while, maybe thats because it's been so long since I've seen them. Seeing everyone especially the younguns (I love playing with my nephews and neices) and feeling the excitement of the pending arrival of another addition to our family made it all the more satisfying. At the same time...As I wrote earlier when I said I was going to take a trip home to Pennsylvania, now as I settle back down to my daily routine back "home" here in Baltimore, I guess I really can say... "There's No Place Like Home"

Friday, April 8th

Finally a trip home!

Finally the weather has calmed down enough for me to make that trip up to western Pennsylvania this weekend to see two of my sisters and their crews and my Mommy! It's been a good while since I made the trip, I think it was several weeks before Thanksgivng. I miss my Mom a lot, since I live way down here in Baltimore and they live way up there in Pennsylvania and can't wait until we get a chance to see each other. It is such a joy to interact with the neices and nephews when I do visit, especially the babies. My darling niece Shannon is having a baby shower this weekend too, I can't wait to kiss and hug the whole bunch of 'em! The only thing I do dread about the trip of course is the drive...it'll probably cost me about 4.5 to 5 hours drive time going up and Lord knows what it will be coming back, thats always the hardest part of the trip too....the long drive home...*sigh* Plus, I'm sure I'm going to run into my fair share of "Morotic Idions" all the way back. You guys have a great weekend!

Laughter is such a good thing, yes?

Under normal circumstances I am reluctant to make fun at another persons misfortunes or poke fun at someone in dire staits....but then I remind myself, it's been a long time since I remember anything being normal...For example, when I graduated from high school way back in the day, life was normal. The things we feared back then seem laughable by todays standards of public panic. I mean when I was in school, you'd have to be a dam foo idiote to even think of someone coming up in any shool with guns blazing like kids do now thats for sure! Sure we had fights and occasional beatdowns on many an afternoon whenever a student went and got upset about something, but now...shheeeeeeet! I never could understand this thing anyway when some kids get all worked up and bent out of shape like some of these disturbed fools shooting up the schools and killing other students like it's some video game? we never, nver ever had to worry about stuff like that in my day. I really feel for most of the kids in the public school system nationwide, they are up against some truly terrifying obstacles to learning...

Ooops..I rambled off course again, where was I?...Yes, laughter. As I was saying, normally I hate making fun of folk when they down but I couldn't help but bust a giggle or two when someone at work sent me this lil clip about Michael Jackson...
(by the way Mike..talk to me, what really happened?....No Mike, not to the boys...to YOU!!! After the album Thriller Mike...What happened?? You lost me after that..)
