Tidal Wave

Oh my goodness please pray for all the many hundreds of thousands of victims of that massive earthquake and resulting tsunami waves that have devastated Asia. I don't think folk realize as yet just how devastating this event was. This was surely an event of near biblical proportions. As we move past Christmas and still linger in the happiness of the holiday season, take a moment to pray for those who have suffered and be thankful even more for what we enjoy in our lives.

Merry Christmas!

Me and my wife Cheryl were just discusssing how lately we've noticed that slowly but surely the mainstream media and even most major employers have been removing all references to Christmas from their public vocabulary. Have you noticed that instead of displaying the phrase "Merry Christmas", more and more advertisers and companies have been pressured to replace that with "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" or some other similar "watered-down" version. All in the name of being politically correct or succumbing to the fear of offending someone who may not believe in Christ. My goodness folk it seems to me like we've sunk so low as a nation now where it's almost a crime to acknowledge Christ in a public forum? Christmas is a holiday created to specifically observe the birth of Christ. In any event, there's no shame in my game when I say Merry Christmas to you and I mean ALL of you, regardless of your religious affiliation. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Happy Holidays if you must and even Seasons Greetings for those who are more comfy with that, but first and foremost...Merry Christmas!!!!

questionable...

feeling strange, apprehensively unable to get my thoughts to coagulate into anything worth blogging about...One thing I did want to note is how bizarre our world is becoming every day...people cutting pregnant women open to steal their babies... what the frink is that about? little grade school boys being arrested for raping another grade school student in the school bathroom...actually I could go on and on, I'm sure where you live probably has all sorts of horror stories that the local boneheads done went and done also, yes? One thing I can say for any certainty is this...with all the wild and crazy stuff that happened this year, Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, the Election, Kobe, and this is just a few, 2004 will definitely turn out to be a year to remember and also a year to forget, knamean? Y'all have a good day!

Tuesday, December 14th

Uhh...it cold.

Now that Old Man Winter done pretty much set up camp around here and made himself "comferble" I may as well accept it as fact and slap myself 50 times for not having the foresight to buy some gloves ahead of time...duh. I mean it wasn't like it just got cold suddenly either, as it's been a bit nippy in my part of Baltimore lately for a few weeks now too. Along with the cold unfortunately, another familiar sight becomes even more visible...homeless people sleeping on steam grates on the sidewalks downtown. I can't understand how people in power in local guvmint here can just step right over them and walk by or even drive past in their rides without even a passing glance or thought. I'm not saying hurl money at 'em or shower them with pity...but aint there something...anything that can be done? What would you do if you were in charge of a major city and had the will and wisdom to do something? What would you do to eliminate the need for folk to camp out on the streets on a steam grate in your city? What would you do?

Monday, December 6th

Mindless

The closer we get to Christmas the more I despise the now constant commercials on TV urging you to buy, buy, buy!! Whatever happened to the Christmas I grew up with? Heck, although we had toys back then and surely Mom, Dad, Uncle, and Aunt spent a bundle back then to appease our little kiddie souls, I'm sure the true meaning of Christmas was not lost on so many as it is today. I was watching the TV yesterday and noticed how all the commercials were begging you to buy this and buy that for that special someone and I couldn't help but notice that all the things they were urging me to buy were for items costing several hunnid or thousand dollars or more!!! Big ticket items like plasma T.V's, diamond tell her your sorry rings, hi-end automobiles like Lexus...ok, yeah, give me a break. Not like a few years ago, stuff was being hawked for a "low" of 40-50 ducats on average per gift. Today...puh-lease! At what point in time did everyone become instant millionaires during the year and forgot to let me know? Anyway, what on God's earth does a fat man with a beard who once a year flies around the world being pulled by flying reindeer and after sliding down millions of chimneys and giving out toys have to do with what we are supposed to be celebrating? I know I sound like The Grinch this morning, LOL, but seriously, I wonder how many folk have the economic courage to resist the constant screams to rush out and buy this and buy that for Christmas. Why not just either make someone something using your hands or heart? Bake something, make something, sing something, write something, share something, do something...anything besides falling for that yearly corporate lie that the rest of us won't be happy unless you go out and spend yourself into debtsville. Just make more of an effort to remember the reason for the season. Have a great Monday and week ahead everybody! I'm off to find some breakfast...
